Thought I'd throw this one out there just for fun. I've had the Halo edition xbox 360 since its release in 2007, and have greatly enjoyed the gaming experience. However, my machine has, on occasion, booted up with the dreaded "red rings of death". On an instinctive whim I decided to place it in my freezer for around 5 minutes - and "voila!" - it returned to its normal performing self. I have done this several times - rare occasions - over the years, and have had good results every time. Considering the failure rate, not to mention expense, of these gaming systems, I thought I might put this out there for others. Red Rings? Try the freezer!
Note: I've since read suggestions that such temperature swings might do more harm than good in the long run - so be warned - I can only say that it seemed to provide a quick fix at the time. And if the machine is still under warranty, by all means take advantage of the warranty.
